The Pacific!!!

The Pacific Ocean!!
We made it!! Today we put our feet in the Pacific Ocean, and it was cold! But we're so excited to be here, all the way on the other side of the country.

The drive from Portland was pretty short, only about 2 hours and we arrived in Seaside, Oregon, http://www.seasideor.com/, a small tourist town in the northern part of the Oregon coast. We chose a campground fairly close to town and got set up. Then we broke out the bikes and biked to town. We have really enjoyed biking to get around.
It looks so different then the East
Coast beaches, with the huge hills rising
from the water.

Our first stop was the beach, of course. It's very windy and pretty cold here, in the low 60s, so not exactly bathing suit weather, but that didn't stop us from getting our feet wet, and the girls a little more. Lots of sand dollars on the beach and some jelly fish. blech. The highlight though was a seal playing in the surf!!

Conner wouldn't take his shoes off. LOL.

Cold!

The signs warn: Don't turn your back on
the ocean.

There is a sea lion out there somewhere.

Life is good at the beach!

After a walk up and down the beach, back to bikes for a ride down the Promenade (or "The Prom" as they call it). It's a very nice, wide, paved boardwalk that runs along the beach all the way through town. There were lots of people out this evening, as there is a huge car show in town. We got to see (and hear) quite a few of the restored hot rods as they drove down the main drag in town and around "The Turnaround". Lewis & Clark's expedition ended in this area, so there is are a lot of references to them here, including a statue in the middle of The Turnaround.  There is a great downtown, with lots of shops and restaurants, but it was hard to maneuver with the bikes, so we will head back tomorrow to spend some money there. haha.

We headed back to the campground in time for a quick dinner and Candy Bar Bingo, an activity they have every Saturday night. The Cawleys cleaned up!!! We won four of the games, including the final Grand Prize pot, which was a HUGE pile of candy... just what we needed. The kids were pretty happy about it, of course. Full of chocolate and sugar, we played some ping pong, fussball, and basketball before heading back for bed. It's a nice campground, with a lot of family activities, including an indoor pool!
