Dune buggies, sea lions and horses

I'm falling behind on my blog, because we have been so busy having fun that I'm too tired to write anything when we get back to the trailer. So this will be quick. I'm ready for bed.

Florence, Ore., did not disappoint! We started the day at Sandland Adventures, www.sandlandadventures.com, for a ride on a super souped up dune buggy or "sandrail". I'm not sure why they call them that, but it does make for an exciting ride. The kids had to wear helmets and we were all strapped in with those serious race-car-type harness seatbelts, and off we went. After a few minutes riding down trails, we got out to the HUGE dunes and the driver took off! WOW!! Up and down these huge sand mountains, crazy tight turns, sand flying everywhere... and I mean EVERYWHERE. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I used the water-proof camera for all the pictures and I forgot the cable to hook it up to the computer, so I can't share pictures yet.

After our ride and a quick lunch, we drove to Sea Lion Caves http://sealioncaves.com/home/. This is supposed the largest sea cave in the world, and home to a large group of sea lions. Only, the sea lions don't hang out in the cave until winter. So there was one sea lion sitting on the rock in the middle of the cave that we saw. She just sat there looking at all the tourists, looking at her. She must have drawn the short straw that day and had to stay behind to be the token sea lion while all her friends went out for a swim. Anyway, she was cute and it was neat to see the inside of a sea cave. We did get to see the sea lions, some swimming in the surg, and a lot of them sunning themselves on rocks below the building. So it was fun.

That is a sea lion on the rock.

Can you see all the sea lions on the rocks?

We ended the day with a horseback ride on the beach at sunset. It was AMAZING! We had the whole beach to ourselves and we were the only ones on the ride too, so it was our own paradise. Jim even rode! The greatest thing about the ride was that once we were on the beach, they let us do what we wanted, not just follow in a line. So Kate and I took off trotting down the beach and it was great! We all had fun.
