Last Day in Portland

Our final day in Portland was a hot one, probably our hottest day since we left the East Coast. So of course, we decided to take a bike ride at noon, on a trail with very little shade. Oops. Let's just say it wasn't very enjoyable for any of us. The one highlight was LOTS of blackberries all along the trail, so we had plenty of snacks when we took a break.
After the bike ride, we headed back to cool off at the trailer. The kids were done for the day, so Jim and I set off to take a quick drive up through part of the Gorge (Columbia River Gorge), and pick up some groceries for the trip to the coast tomorrow. We took the scenic route out of Troutdale and saw some lovely spots. We briefly considered staying a few more days to tube and kayak, but we are quickly running out of time, so we had to make due with our drive-by. We did make it up to Vista House, this odd little round building at a scenic stop on the scenic byway. It is an amazing view down into the gorge. Lovely. Unfortunately, the road is closed past Vista House, so we didn't make it to Multnomah Falls.
